True Silk from Smuksak is spun in Italy in a recognized spinning mill with ethically correct and environmentally correct production methods. It consists of 100% bourette, which is spun from surplus silk. Here, the excess raw materials are utilized and waste is thereby avoided. Bourette silk yarn has a rougher and uneven surface, and may contain more flouring, as the yarn often consists of different fibers and types of raw silk.

Made from 100% bourette silk

Bourette silk is a high-quality silk spun from surplus silk. It can be fibers from mulberry silk or tussah silk, which comes from the outermost layer of the pupa. The outermost layer will normally be sorted out, but to avoid waste and utilize the excess raw materials, bourette yarn is produced. Bourette silk is created with care from the remaining silk fibers during the production of silk material. Same good properties as other types of silk, but just with a different expression and an environmentally friendly approach. This process results in a yarn with a unique, rustic look, a distinct crisp feel and an exciting texture. Bourette silk yarn has a rougher and uneven surface and may contain more mottling, as the yarn often consists of different fibers and types of raw silk.

Silk yarn is particularly comfortable against the skin, so it can be good for knitting for babies and children. This is due to the unique properties of silk - it can retain heat in the winter and is cooling on a hot summer day.

When knitting a light project such as a summer top or a tee, you can easily do it on thin needles, à la a 2.5-3 needle, which gives the classic knitting strength for summer knitting of 28 m per 10 cm. It can also be knitted in double thread or together with a follower thread, such as Silk Mohair, on needles 4-4.5. Here you get a knitting strength of 19-21 m per 10 cm.
