New Glitter from Lana Gatto – glitter as a trailing thread
Want to add a touch of glitter without changing your entire project? New Glitter is made just for that: a thin effect thread that can be knitted together with your main yarn, so that you get a sparkling look - from completely subtle to "party knit", depending on how much you use it.
New Glitter works both in smooth, simple designs (where the glitter is allowed to stand out) and in structured knitting, where it gives an exciting depth when the light hits the stitches.
This is how you can use New Glitter in your knitting
You can use the mica thread in several ways - depending on whether you want a continuous shine or small details:
- As a guiding thread throughout the project for a festive, uniform glitter expression
- Only in edges (rib, neckline, sleeve edges or hem) for an elegant finish
- In stripes or panels for discreet effects and fine contrasts
- As a highlight in a pattern – for example by letting the glitter follow a detail in the design
- For accessories such as hats, pulse warmers, scarves or small bags, where the effect really comes into its own
Does New Glitter affect the knit strength?
As a starting point: very little. New Glitter is one very thin thread with a long running length (25 g = 300 m), and it has been developed to be added as a trailing thread, so that you can typically follow the needle and knitting strength of the pattern with your main yarn.
Tip: If you knit very loosely or very tightly, the mica thread can still have a slight effect - feel free to make a small knitting test if the project is close to completion.

Tips for a beautiful glitter result
If you want the nicest and most "pure" glitter expression, try these little tricks:
- Hold the glitter thread slightly tense, so that it follows the main yarn nicely
- Use it with plain or calm yarns, if the glitter is to stand out clearly
- Combine with mohair, merino or cotton for different looks (soft blur vs. sharper sparkle)
- Use the glitter as contrast detail: same color main yarn - but with glitter at the edges
Choose your glitter color
New Glitter is available in several shades – from classic gold and silver to deeper, colored glitter tones. It makes it easy to match both neutral basic projects and colorful designs where you want to create a little extra wow effect.
