Inspiration: Knit in VIP (Cashmere/Merino)
There is something very special about knitting in a yarn that both feels luxurious against the skin and gives a beautiful, even stitch image. VIP from Lana Gatto is just such a yarn - and that's why we use it again and again for popular knitting patterns, where fit, softness and finish play a role. We show continuous knitting in this post with pictures, so you can see expressions and decreases in practice.
What is VIP yarn?
VIP is an exclusive blend of 80% merino wool and 20% cashmere - i.e. a combination that provides both warmth, elasticity and that "ahh" softness you want close to the skin.
VIP facts:
- Material: 20% cashmere / 80% merino wool
- Running length: approx. 50 g / 200 m
- Recommended pin: 3–3.5 mm
- Knit strength: 26–28 m per 10 cm
- Wash: hand wash at 30°
That's why we love to knit popular patterns in VIP
VIP is especially brilliant for recipes where you want a sharp, calm mask image and a result that feels like a soft hug.
What we often experience with VIP:
- It gives a clean and "expensive" look - even in simple stockinette.
- The cashmere portion provides a softness that makes it an obvious choice for knitwear that you wear directly on the skin.
- The merino gives good elasticity, so rib edges and fit will be nice.
This is exactly the kind of security in yarn selection that we always go for: delicious results without feeling like a gamble.
VIP + companion thread: this is how you get the airy "mohair look"
Although VIP is beautiful on its own, we often knit with a follower thread to get a more airy, soft and exclusive look – especially in sweaters and cardigans.
Our most used follow thread: Silk Mohair (the classic: light, fluffy and elegant). Can be replaced by Kimsa or Baby Alpaca (if you want a different expression or a different fiber feel)
What does the trailing thread do to the expression?
- Gives more "fluff" and depth in the colour
- Can make the knitting more soft/airy
- Can help achieve a certain look and knitting firmness
- Can help protect the delicate cashmere fiber from lint
