Inspiration: Knit in Maxi VIP

If you love the feeling of soft, warm knitwear – but would like a yarn that is still easy to work with for both sweaters and accessories – then Maxi VIP an obvious choice. Maxi VIP is the thicker version in the VIP family and gives you a delicious, round thread with a nice mesh pattern and a softness that feels like pure luxury.

What is Maxi VIP?

Maxi VIP is a quality i 80% merino wool and 20% cashmere. Extrafine merino and first-cut cashmere are used here, which makes the yarn a pleasure to knit with and wear. The combination produces a result that is both warm, soft and comfortable against the skin – perfect for projects that need to be worn close to the body.

Yarn facts (quick overview)

  • Material: 80% merino wool, 20% cashmere

  • Running length: approx. 50 g / 100 m

  • Guidance sticks: approx. 4 mm

  • Knit strength: approx. 19–20 m per 10 cm on needle 4 mm or 15-16 m per 10 cm on needle 5-6 mm with trailing thread.

  • Washing: hand wash 30° (dry flat)

This is how you get a good result with Maxi VIP

Maxi VIP has a beautiful, even surface and a nice mask image. Here are a few tips for stick selection, test patch and finish to achieve the result you are after.

1) Knit a test patch - and wash it
The yarn only really finds its shape after washing and a light block. When you wash the sample patch, you get a more accurate picture of both knitting strength, drape and surface.

2) Choice of stick size
When you knit Maxi VIP alone without a trailing thread, we recommend a maximum needle size of 4.5 mm in stockinette stitch. If you choose a needle size that is too large, the knitting will be too loose and thus tend to grow a lot. At the same time, a denser knit will better protect the delicate cashmere fiber. A trailing thread will also help keep the shape and protect against pilling.

3) Consider a companion thread
If you want an extra soft, "fluffy" look and at the same time give the knit a little more firmness, Maxi VIP can be combined with a follower thread - for example Silk Mohair. It gives a beautiful surface and can also help to make your finished project more robust in use.

4) Perfect for both large and small projects
Maxi VIP is really well suited for sweaters, cardigans and slipovers, but also for hats, neck warmers and scarves, where comfort against the skin is extra important.
